Celebrate the festival of lights with Jews on Ohlone Land (JOOL) and Kehilla as we come together for a joyful and meaningful Hanukkah gathering. We’ll light the third candle in community, share music led by the JOOL Players—bring your instrument if you’d like to join in!—and play a spirited round of “Reuse Dreidel.” Instead of gelt, bring small, random objects from your home to use as game pieces, or fair-trade chocolate. At the end of the night, we’ll have a dance party with live klezmer music from the Mazl Ensemble ~ Enjoy time with friends and neighbors, and don’t forget to bring your own menorah and candles for a vibrant, collective lighting.
We’ll have latkes and drinks to complete the celebration, and invite you to bring sides, salads or desserts (vegetarian).
This gathering is in support of the “Let the Land Breathe” campaign. Representatives from the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust will share about the powerful effort to raise $1M by December 31st to begin the next phase of restoring the West Berkeley Shellmound to dignity. You’ll have an opportunity to learn more and contribute to this essential work.
As a special offering, the first 24 people to register will receive a piece of “acacia gelt.” This wood—a displaced relative harvested with permission from re-matriated land —will be used in JOOL’s Tzedakah Box Project.
This is an all-ages event open to all. Invite your family, friends and communities!
Register Here. Tickets are $10/person, free for children under 13, no one turned away for lack of funds. Tickets cover event costs, with any surplus going directly to the “Let the Land Breathe” campaign.
